About us
"How Sustainable" is a community of data scientists and researchers dedicated to providing sustainability insights on companies based on objective and transparent information.
We believe that it is often difficult for consumers to truly understand how sustainable companies are, due in large part to a practice known as "greenwashing." This refers to the use of marketing and PR tactics by companies to make it appear as though they are more environmentally-friendly than they actually are.

Our Story
Data sources
How Sustainable works to develop estimates on the sustainability of various companies. We do this by researching and analyzing a range of data sources, including annual reports and other publicly available information. By displaying this information in an easy-to-access way, we make it easier for consumers to compare companies and make more informed, sustainable choices.
Our estimates
We recognize that it is impossible to research, analyze, and incorporate all possible impacts in our work. We also recognize that some of the impact metrics we use are far from perfect. However, we do not let these limitations constrain our ambitions. As the economist John Maynard Keynes famously said, "It is better to be roughly right than precisely wrong." Fully recognizing the tradeoff between impact measurement accuracy and scalability of application, we strive to create both dependable and scalable measurements of impact.
